From Des Moines Area Religious Council:

A collaboration of over 40 local human service agencies and partners will join forces to offer a first-of-its-kind Care Corridor Resource Fair experience. The free event kicks off Thursday, March 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at DMARC Headquarters – 100 Army Post Road.

This is a family-friendly event with children’s activities and healthy snacks available for
attendees. Participants can take pictures with superheroes and the Iowa Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement (NOBLE) members. Crafts, coloring, and drawing will also be available for kids.

Several participating agencies will provide on-site services, including the Evelyn K Davis Center’s clothing closet, Iowa DOT, Dental Connections, and the DMARC-Ket Southside Food Pantry.

“This event is designed to be kid-friendly. We know how hard it can be for families to get things checked off their list,” said DMARC CEO Matt Unger. “Even if you aren’t seeking a specific opportunity, there is something for everyone at this event.”

Creating the resource fair is just the first step in helping to alleviate the stress and barriers for those facing hardship by creating a one-stop shop for general assistance.

“One of the most valuable resources in our lives is time, and this is especially true for those who are facing additional hardship,” said Unger. “This resource fair is just the first step in better coordinating with organizations that support a similar mission.”

The event will highlight over 40 local providers in healthcare, food assistance, affordable housing, Refugee and Immigrant services, workforce development, transportation, and other social and human services.

Participating agencies want to expand on similar opportunities and grow the ‘care corridor’ model to serve the Southside neighborhoods better and beyond.
